I think it is. Christmas is a fuzzy, warm ball of white fluffiness that wraps around me, hot chocolate and/or mulled wine in hand. I would like to tell you why I love Christmas so. But instead of me rambling on for paragraphs on end, let’s try something new.

OK. Fine. It’s mulled wine.
I will tell you a list of things that make Christmas a special time for me. Then you tell me yours. Let’s see if this works.

So. Here’s my list in no particular order:
The lights
Oh the lights! Christmas is the only time of year you can find me willingly wandering Oxford Street. I normally abhor it – too many shoppers, too many tourists. But when the lights come on, my oh my. It’s pretty. So very pretty. I love it.

The festiveness
I don’t quite know what word to use. Festivity is too much. Festiveness sounds weird. But for lack of a better word, that’s what it is. I love how festive everything is – shop windows, people, songs played in public places, cups! The coffee cups! The air is pregnant with festivity. And there’s nothing quite so wonderful.
Winter Wonderland
Oh don’t you smirk. I’m the biggest fan. No matter how crowded it is, how muddy, how cold. I find the concept so very wonderful. I. Just. Love. It.
Christmas markets
Actually, now that I think about it, I know why I love Winter Wonderland so – it’s a giant Christmas market with circus and ice and rides and happy people! I’ve been to Christmas markets in London, Birmingham, Scotland, Paris, and Germany – and I love them all.

The love
There is just so much love. Love in the air. Love in the family. Love among friends. Christmas (and New Year) really is the season of love, isn’t it? And it’s not like Valentine love. Valentine’s Day always has a forced feel to it (imho). Which is a shame, really. A striking example of something so commercialised that the magic is completely gone. Well, for me at least. Christmas love has a genuine feel to it. Of course, it’s commercialised, like so many other things. But somehow the essence survives. Have you spent Christmas in a European family? I spent one. And I don’t think I’ve ever felt so loved as in those cherished moments.

So that’s it. That’s my list. I know it’s a bit short. But they say less is more.
Oh, just one more thing. Everyone has their favourite Christmas song, I think. Here’s mine.
Happy Christmas everyone!
p.s. Anyone else feels the urge to watch Love Actually every Christmas? I do.
p.p.s. So what are the things that make Christmas wonderful, in your opinion? You find Christmas appalling? That’s too bad. But do leave your thoughts. My page is open to you. As ever.
p.p.p.s. Any Christmas photos you want to share? I’m jetting off to London in a few weeks. I promise I’ll take some pics of the Oxford Street decorations and share them with you after the New Year. We can reminisce about Christmas lights together. 🙂
Looking forward to reading your comments!
Lots and lots of Christmassy love,
Val
